Partners in London's top law firms are earning an average of more than £700,000 a year despite the economic downturn, according to figures published by Legal Business magazine.

Last year's top earner, at about £2m, is reckoned to be Andrew Wilkinson, a Briton working for the Amercian firm Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft.
